All shipping containers including ours are made out of corten steel. Why use corten steel?
Corten Steel is a weathering steel, best known under the trademark COR-TEN steel, is a group of steel alloys which were developed to obivate the need for painting, and form a stable rust-like apprearance if exposed to the weather for several years.
What this means is due to the chemical make-up of corten steel it has an increased resistance to weather corrosion. In short corten steel forms a protective surface layer that acts as a weather proof barrier. Very useful in a steel container that is primarily designed to withstand salt water and the extreme found at sea.
